See You in 2010! Print E-mail
ImageThe 2008 Alice Springs Masters Games have drawn to a close after a fantastic week of fun and competition.

It was a record week with almost 100 new Swimming records, 60 new records in Athletics and three new records set in the Masters Mile.

There were former-Olympians, Commonwealth and State champions, that came for the fun. Olympic Pistol Shooter David Moore said: “There is a system in place for athletes to combat depression (post-Olympics), but I come to Alice Springs and it does the same thing… the Alice Springs Masters Games puts the fun back into shooting.”

There was the amazing duo of Monica Osborne and Joyce Greaves, both in their 80’s, who return to the Games to “count the friends, not the medals.”

ImageLet’s also not forget the efforts of the thousands of participants that gave generously to charities represented at the Games. No one could forget Craig Prettejohn donning a yellow bikini on the cricket pitch raising $2000 for Beyond Blue, or the infamous X-Men Touch team who raised over $20,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

There was a moment that will be remembered in history, when Swimming legend and Games Patron Dawn Fraser returned to the pool, to take silver, with her beloved grandson cheering her on from the side.

Leaving his mark once again was Honorary Ambassador Daryl Somers, providing compulsory laughter around the Games, promising to return in 2010.

Final thanks must go to the Games volunteers and ambassadors. Almost 600 volunteers gave their time so freely during the Games; thankyou for all of your hard work and dedication.

See you all from the 9 – 16 October in 2010!
