Who participates in the Alice Springs Masters Games?
Alice Springs Masters Games’ participants come from all states and territories across Australia and sometimes from overseas. In 2006, registrations exceeded 4,500. With all interstate registration numbers high, the largest contingent of registrations outside the Northern Territory came from South Australia.

What are the age requirements to compete in the Games?
The age limits differ between sports and each sport should be checked individually for age requirements, In 2008, the lowest age limit will be 25 years of age for women and 30 for men across some sports.

Over 30 sports are available for participants to compete in at the Games and all are listed in detail on the individual sports pages on this website.

How often are the Games held?
The Alice Springs Masters Games are held biennially, and run for a week in October. In 2008, the Games will commence on 11 October and conclude on 18 October.

How long have the Games been running for?
The Alice Springs Masters Games started in 1986 and in 2008 will celebrate the 12th Games over 22 years.

What is the temperature like in Alice Springs in October- isn't it hot?
The average maximum temperature for October is 31.5C, the average minimum is 14.8C. Many of the sports are played in the early morning or afternoon and evening. Remember to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen and a hat if you are competing outdoors.

How do I get around the town when I get there?
There is a free shuttle bus service throughout Games week running between the centre of town and the Games Centre. The Games provides a free bus service to and from sport venues throughout the Games. Further information is printed in the souvenir program.

There is a fleet of taxis and private hire cars with standard flagfalls and rates per kilometre- the average taxi fare to get you anywhere in Alice is around $10.

A regular public bus service operates on extensive routes, bypassing most motels, hotels and sporting grounds with an average fare of $3.
