FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 26th August 2008 After an extensive recruiting campaign, the Alice Springs Masters Games have received record Ambassador registrations that have not been near this high since 2002. An amazing 54 Ambassadors will join the likes of popular entertainer Daryl Somers, Alice Springs Mayor Damien Ryan and ex-Territory Administrator Ted Egan in representing and officiating at the 2008 Games. Returning for his fourth Games, Honorary Games Ambassador Daryl Somers is thrilled with the increase in the ambassador ranks. “It’s an example of the enormous community spirit engendered in the Alice, and another reason why I love coming back,” said Daryl. “I love my ambassadorial role because it means I get to visit most events and that means more fun!” The motivation to recruit new Ambassadors was sparked when numbers for 2008 had dropped to less than 20. Now with 54 Ambassadors, Games organisers are able to dedicate at least one Ambassador to each of the 35 sports over Games week, as well as a number of other duties such as the airport meet and greet, Games centre check-in and assisting with tourist information. “I believe the record Ambassador numbers are a reflection of locals’ love for Alice Springs. Given the huge influx of visitors for the Games, being an Ambassador is an ideal way to represent Alice Springs and show off the town,” said Volunteers Coordinator Emma McGrath.
