Starting Time Competitors should check when the morning sessions begin because they change depending on Games events throughout the week. Morning sessions finish around midday with the older age groups playing earlier than the younger age groups. Evening sessions commence at 5.00pm and conclude at approximately 9.30pm, with the older age groups playing first in this session. Check evening session times as they also vary. This structure allows for a ‘siesta’ during the heat of the day. Format The format will be Round Robin for each event. A plate event will be conducted on days 4, 5 and 6 for players who do not reach medal rounds. All matches for the 35 to 60 years age groups will be first to 9, tie break at 8 all. All matches for the 60 and over will be first to 6, tie break at 6 all. In doubles, the 125 years combined age group and above play first to 6. All of the younger age groups play first to 9. The matches may be shortened due to inclement weather or scheduling requirements. Draws There are seeded players/pairs in every pool. Seedings will be determined by the Sports Coordinator taking into account previous Games Results. Draws will be available on Thursday 7th October 2010 Missing Entries It is the responsibility of each competitor to let us know if you are missing from the draw prior to starting time on Sunday morning. Tennis Balls Wilson Australian Open Tennis Balls will be used. Balls for all matches will be new or once used. No competitor is allowed to take or choose their own balls from the Tournament Desk. Playoffs and Finals Where there is one pool in any event, medals will be decided by the highest amount of sets won with no finals. Where there are two or more pools, the 2 players/pairs who have won the most sets will progress to the medal rounds. Players/pairs who have already played against each other in the Pools will not be required to play against each other again in the medal rounds – their previous result in the pool will stand. We also take two per pool into the playoffs to allow for any imbalances in the pools. The player/pair that wins the most sets will progress to the playoffs and be awarded medals, regardless of how many total games they have won. Sets first then games. In the event of 2 players/pairs being on equal scores, a head to head count back will be used to decide who progresses to the medal rounds. If scores are still tied, a further count back will be used. Medal Rounds The medal rounds, unless stated, will also be round robins. Plates Events Anyone who does not reach the medal rounds is automatically entered in the plate events. You do not have to separately enter the plate events. Please check with your doubles partner to ensure they know about the plate events. Plate events will be first to 6 with a tie breaker at 5 all. There will be no medals or prizes for the plate events It is not a requirement that all competitors play in the plate event, however if you chose not to, please notify the Tournament Desk as soon as possible. Depending on time constraints, some plate events may not be played out to the finish. Other players/pairs may participate in the plate events.
