Length of Games Games start on the hour and are made up of four, ten minute quarters. There is 3 minutes between quarter breaks and 5 minutes at half time. Teams play a minimum of one game per night with some divisions playing a combination of one or two games per night depending on the number of teams nominating in that division. Maximum No. of players per team Any number of players may register to play in a team; however, only 12 players are able to participate in any one game. These players may substitue on and off the court any number of times. See rules section below. Playing surface The Pat Gallagher Netball Centre consits of 8 fully lit outdoor cours. The surface is a flexible, latexite netball surface. Divisions There are 6 divisions in Netball: 35+ Competitive 35+ Social 40+ 45+ 50+ 55+ The 35+ competitive division is for those skilled , serious teams who play together in their local competition and have come to the Alice Springs Masters Games as a team. The 35+ social division is for those players of various abilities who come together to form a team solely to play in the Alice Springs Masters Games and enjoy the social side of our sport. Nominating a division Do you come with the intention of winning every game or is it purely just for fun or is it for a throw and giggle? If you ask your team this question it may help to decide where you belong in the 35+ divisions. The Games teams are required to select a first and second preference for a division to play in. Preference for the division will be given in order of teams who have registered in full. The purpose behind the selection of two possible playing divisions is to give the organising committee greater flexibility in constructing the competition. Ideally the organising committee will work to accommodate all teams first preferences. The draw Once nominations have closed the draw will be constructed. Where there are large number of registrations in a single division then this division will be split alphabetically, to create two or more divisions. The teams will play a round robin and finals within this division. Sports Specific Information Fees must be paid in full from your Netball team i.e, each player to pay $60 games fee and $50 sports levy fee. non-playing umpire/scorer/officials pay Games Entry Fee of $60 only. A pre-competition meeting will be held for all team managers. This will be on Sunday 10th October at 10am at Federals Sports Clun on undoolya Road (opposite the netball courts). This enables us to put a face to a name and for any last minute details to be finalised. A netball Opening Ceremony will be held on Sunday 10th October at 5pm at the pat Gallagher Netball Centre. The ceremony takes approximately 20 minutes leaving enough time for teams to prepare for their first game. Continuing the netball tradition, there will be an opening night barbeque free to all netball players and those netball officials who have paid the sports levy. Meal tickets for this will be distributed at the pre- competition meeting (see below). There will be a drop home bus service for all netballers after their games. This will run until well after the last game of the night. The Medal presentation and Closing Ceremony will be held after the grand final on the Friday evening. With ceremonies over by 10.30pm there is plenty of time to celebrate after. The minimum age required for women is 35 years of age and all ages are determined as at the 31st Decemeber 2010. Sports Trainers Qualified sports trainers are at the courts to assist with any sports injuries. A Sports Medical Clinic will be at the Netball Courts for more serious injuries. Food and Refreshments Regular ASMG netball attendees will know "Burnnards Bar and BBQ" which operate nightly at the netball courts. If a home style meal is more to your likling, the canteen also operates selling salads, roll, fruit salads, quiche and lasagne and all the usual canteen fare. The Alice Springs Netball Association looks forward to being your host for the 2010 Alice Springs Masters Games. Entertainment When you've finished with the fun on the netball courts, there's more fun to be had off the netball courts! With the social life in mind, where possible, the netball committee structure the competition around socialising. Every night at the netball courts has a festive atmosphere with large crowds coming out to support the netballers and be part of the action. "Burnnards Bar & BBQ' provide food and fluids nightly. There is also the canteen for some good home-style cooking. So that most netballers can make it to the Mid-Week Concert on Wednesday 13th October, netball games will finish earlier on Wednesday. This gives enough time to slip into the glad rags and get along to the concert held on the lawn of Lasseters Hotel Casino. There is also the Opening Ceremony on Saturday 9th October and Closing Ceremony held on Saturday 16th October concerts hosted by the Alice Springs Masters Games organising committee held at ANZAC Oval. |
