FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
12th August 2008
Organisers of the Alice Springs Masters Games have been inundated with requests to accept late entries and have decided to extend the registration closing date until Friday 22 August. Games Manager Judith Dixon believes the large number of requests is a result of events of the last couple of weeks.
“I think a lot of Territory residents have been preoccupied with the election and the Olympics, and missed their opportunity to register for the Games,” said Ms Dixon.
“Registrations closed on Saturday August 9, the same day as the Territory election. Since then there have been a number of requests coming through to the office to accept late entries, so much so that we have decided to extend the closing date.
“While registrations are still on par to match the 2006 Games, I don’t like to think that anyone has missed out on their opportunity to participate in ‘The Friendly Games’.
“Although we are extending the closing date, all entries must be received by Friday 22 August – this includes entries arriving through the post.
“Some sports are full or very close to filling, so I encourage everyone hoping to register to visit the Games office or give the team a call before registering. Our website will have frequent updates on sports as they fill, and it will also be the most efficient way for participants out of Alice Springs to register,” said Ms Dixon.
