Welcome
A warm welcome is extended to participants in the 2010 Road and Cross Country program.  We trust you will enjoy a week of friendly competition while achieving your own personal goals.

The Alice Springs Running and Walking Club was formed in 1979 and has provided a strong program of road and cross country activities in Alice Springs from that time.  The Club is pleased to have been involved with Masters Games since their inception in 1986 and it is hoped that newcomers to this year’s Games will enjoy themselves as much as previous competitors.
The program is basically the same as for 2008 with the exception that the 5k Road Walk will be moved the Alice Springs Desert Park, located off Larapinta Drive, on the Western outskirts of the town.
The work of our many Volunteers is much appreciated in conducting the Road and Cross Country program.  Its success will be due in large part to the willingness of these people to be in attendance early on several days during Games week to provide sports medicine, drink stations, marshalling, ambassadorial duties, media liaison, time keeping/recording, results processing and catering.

Sport
All events commence at 6 am
Competitors should “Check In” for each event near the Start line from 5.30 am.
Competitors must fasten Chest Bibs securely one on the front and one on the back of their clothing and these must be clearly visible to the Finish Line officials.
Competitors should stay clear of the Finish Line once their number has been recorded.
Competitors may walk the Cross Country event, but this is primarily a running event and no walking prizes will be awarded
In the 5 km and 10 km walking events genuine attempts to walk will be accepted but any form of running may result in disqualification.  Contact with the ground must be maintained at all times and the knee of the weight bearing leg must not be bent as it passes under the hip.
All ages and genders will compete at the same time in each of the Road and Cross Country events.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be presented to the top three individuals in all age groups.
Presentations will be made at the venue as soon as possible after the completion of each event.
Competitors who cannot attend presentations will be able to collect medals from the Registration Desk at the Games Centre.

Transport
To transport competitors to the Half Marathon on Saturday 11 October a bus will depart from Araluen Art Centre on Larapinta Drive at 5.15 am.   A second bus will pick up at   designated venues (Jo-Anne to discuss with Games Office).  Bookings in the normal way for this event will be appreciated to determine numbers requiring transport.
For other out of town events during the week competitors should book their out and back travel with the Games bus service
Bookings must be made prior to XXXX pm on the day before travel

Safety

It should be noted that roads will not be closed during events although a traffic management plan will be in place where necessary. However, competitors should adhere to the pedestrian rule of running/walking on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic
There will be Police assistance and Emergency Services personnel in attendance at road events.
A Sports Medicine volunteer will be available at each event and a Sports Medicine shade tent located near the finish line.
Drink stations will be provided approximately every 2.5 km at each course (3 km for the Half Marathon).
Remember to stay well hydrated before, during and after your event, especially if you are not used to Alice Springs’ hot, dry climate.
Competitors in the 5 km Walk and the Half Marathon may like to consider wearing sunglasses/visors on these east/west courses to minimise sunglare.
Provision will be made for storage of personal items while people are competing and for transportation to the finish line of the Half Marathon.

All events commence at 6 am Sharp.
